UNICIRC® Instrument

The Unicirc®is a single-use male circumcision device for safe and cost-effective circumcisions, with a significant capacity for scaling up circumcision procedures.

The Unicirc®is a surgical-assist instrument that has been developed in accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO) Framework of Evaluation of Male Circumcision Devices.

The Unicirc®procedure is completed at a single visit and can be completed in approximately 10 minutes. At the beginning of the procedure, topical anaesthesia can be used instead of injectable anaesthesia. At completion, tissue adhesive is applied to the wound area, instead of sutures.

The Unicirc® instrument is produced in 8 different sizes, ranging from infant to adult sizes.

  • NO needles
  • NO sutures
  • NO wearing of disposable device

Designed and developed in South Africa by a team of experts led by Dr’s Cyril and Elisabeth Parker, the Unicirc® offers a safe, minimally invasive and scalable alternative to the circumcision devices currently in use, including those endorsed by the WHO.

The Unicirc® presents a radically new approach to circumcision, which has proven to be superior to classical surgical methods and circumcision clamps and rings currently in use, through clinical trials published in independent medical journals.

Device Features

The innovative design of the Unicirc® instrument makes it a revolutionary Surgical-Assist Circumcision Device. The Unicirc® instrument allows for:

For many men the current methods and devices used for circumcision procedures, together with a healing time of five to eight weeks, is a deterrent. For men undergoing circumcision, scheduled return visits and prolonged healing time often result in a loss of income while incurring medical expenses, which is a further deterrent.

As soon as the procedure is complete, the healing process can begin. This rapid healing through primary intention ensures minimal post-operative pain. Circumcision with the Unicirc®ensures excellent cosmetic results.

Only one healthcare provider trained in the use of the Unicirc®is needed to perform a circumcision with the device, with the entire procedure performed in a single visit. healthcare provider is to be certified in using the Unicirc®.

For effective salability cost effectiveness is a key consideration. The unit cost of a disposable Unicirc® instrument makes it a viable option for fast-tracking male circumcisions.

In order to effectively address the backlog in male circumcisions in Southern Africa, but also globally, in line with the objectives of UNAIDS, any solution employed for the task must be scalable.

The benefits of circumcision exceed the risk by 100 to 1.
